On March 4th, 2011, we stood on its summit. What a wonderful feeling summiting Mt Kinabalu for the 2nd time.
10 of us went up to Mt Kinabalu via Mesilau route and came down via Timpohon route. Mesilau route s a bit further than Timpohon but it comes with better view and magnificent landscape.
If i had it my way, i wouldn't mind climbing it every year.. but let us finish up G12 first :-)

It has been a while since we scaled this mountain. The steep climb, chilling wind, cool weather and then the magnificent view comes together as an unforgettable experience.
At 13,535 ft or 4,095 meters (Low's Peak) it is the highest mountain in Malaysia and the highest peak in South East Asia. Situated in Crocker Range, it has a few other peaks such as Alexandra Peak (4,003 m), St John's Peak (4,092 m), Victoria Peak (4,088 m), Ugly Sister Peak (4,032 m), Donkey Ears (4,054 m) and South Peak (3,933 m).
Normally hikers will head to Low's Peak while passing some of the other peaks. We plan to do the same :-) Last time we went there, we climbed via Timpohon trail.
It would be a challenge to tackle its trek via legendary Mesilau route. It is longer by 2 km than the Timpohon trail. That would mean extra training and extra trip to the gym.
So far, we have agreed to take no more than 10 climbers. And.. we will update any info about this climb in this blog, so care to take a peek.
Meanwhile, grab that water bottle and head to the gym guys. We need to "upgrade" those outdated tight and legs.

Berkelah Fall
Only 4 of us went for this trip as others were busy with work etc. Started the journey from KL around 2 am and reached entry of Berkelah Falls around 6 am. Took our breakfast and jumped into the 4 wheel around 8 am. A few minutes later, we were at the entry point.
Trip to the waterfall entry took less than 20 minutes and actually u could drive to this point with your car. We saw proton persona and a few other sedan cars there. BUT if you are planning to camp overnight, take the 4WD and leave your vehicle near the mosque/eatery. Best if you ask the 4WD driver where you should park your transport. Reason for this, a lot of car parked at the entry were broken into at night.
We took approximately one and half hours to climb to the camp site. The highest campsite is just beside the fall and along the way there are many camping grounds available.
Berkelah fall was magnificent. It is everything a waterfall should have. The water is crystal clear and perfect for swimming. The later part of the trek (after the 1st fall) is not well marked and will need some zig-zag across dried water bed. As long as u stay near the river, navigating the trek shouldn't be a problem. I wouldn't say the trek is easy but it's not hard too. These are a few shots from our trip.
Starting point We took the 4WD from here

 Last crossing before the campsite
This one is just below the main fall The magnificent Berkelah Falls Dive.. Dive.. Dive.. The water is quit deep

Found this on our way back
 Coming down the next day
Special thanks the cyber guide Mr Mawi (from Mt. Tahan x'pedition) driver Mr Ameer, cook Ms Ita Chombee and assistant guide Pakuemas aka M'sud.
Also our biggest thanks to a group of Singaporean who camped at the waterfalls edge. Yes.. we know what u did on the last day. The plastic bag, stove, water bottle, ropes, gas canister was all evident of irresponsible campers. We took as much as we could but the rubbish was just too much.
We appreciate all the rubbish you left at the campsite. Don't worry, we are ever ready to serve and to clean it up for you. It is a small help we could do for having you as guess in our outdoor.
Thank you again.
