II Edition

... need to test ur mettle mate?

A few good fellas told me it's way early to plan anything for Chinese New Year (CNY) next year, that would be 14-15 February 2010. Well, i have to... They only allow a small number of climber's per day on Mt Tahan and CNY is like a lottery win in term of holiday days for climbing society. So combine that two fact and you'll have a lot of people going in that direction. Still lucky, most of our Chinese climbers will be out of action on this holiday. Never mind guys, you'll get ur chances on Ramadan fasting month and Raya Holiday when we will be out.

Found this map on on of the forestry web. Merapoh-Kuala Tahan route looks really loooooooong on this map. But then again, it wont be called Mt. Tahan (endure) for nothing... The map is in Malay. I'll upload anything in English if i find one or if i manage to find time to sketch one :-)

Update

14 August 2009
~ Got the climbing rate from Kuala Tahan office but am afraid it is not complete, will have to try Merapoh office again (there's phone problem over there)

24 August 2009
~ Booked
13-19 February 2010 as tentative climbing date
~ 13th is the starting date from Sg Relau (Merapoh) and ends on 19th at Kuala Tahan
~ Maximum of 12 climbers

04 September 2009
~
Normally, in every expedition there will be a theme song. More or less like the theme song for movies. During the early trip in 1990's to Mt Ledang aka Mt Ophir, it started with Fade to Black by Metallica. Till this day, every time this song is heard, it'll bring back the memories.. two over ambitious guy tackling Mt Ledang route without tent nor guide
~ For this trip, because we will be going trough the classic route with spectacular Malaysian mountain ranges... the theme song for this expedition will be the theme song from Micheal Manns 1992 movie - The Last Of The Mohicans. It is in some native language, would guess Red Indians
~ We bet it would be nice to hear it at the highest ground of peninsular Malaysia while viewing sunset. Obviously i got too much time to kill.. sigh
~ Will try to upload or provide links for it later

29 September 2009
~ The Aidilfitri celebration peak is over even thou the raya itself is far from over with the open houses
~ Now would be a good time to slowly start jogging and to pick up the stamina
~ The advise would be to jog at least 3 times a week for 3 km on each run

~ Don't rush on your jog, take your time.. we're just starting....

06 November 2009
~ The November rain is finally here..
~ For the time being, our expedition to Mt. Tahan is overbooked
~ We will start finalising the name of participants in mid December
~ Confirmed participants will have to put down small deposit
~ For now, don't let the November rain stop you from building up that stamina

14 December 2009 ~ Latest
~ Time is running past us, hope all of us have started training
~ End of this month or early January 2010, each participants will have to deposit RM100 for this expedition
~ So far we have info that 2 other groups are hiking Mt Tahan this CNY
~ Better grab that train ticket before its too late, so do hand over the deposit  for us to make the necessary arrangement
~Today is a good day to jog.. make haste as time and tide waits for no man

Gg Bunga Buah

Gg  Bunga  Buah

We made it to the summit of Mt. Bunga Buah. We were there when the wind blew on faces along with the sun. It's a good training ground for hikers planning to tackle higher and tougher mountain.

Maybe, this mountain has not seen hikers for a couple of week, just maybe. The forest has started creeping into the trek in some areas. It would be a good idea to wear long sleeve shirt and anything that covers your leg (unless you don't mind small-small scratches).

At the peak, the were some The leeches are not a menace but they still irritates, and surprisingly there are some green stripe leeches. The stubborn and painful biting one.

We would rate Mt. Bunga Buah as :

Location        Bentong, Pahang
Diff               2/10 - Relatively easy
View (Peak)   2/10 - Nothing much
Clean            6/10 - Still clean
Nature          5/10 - Still in good shape
Water           3/10 - Water point 1.5 hour from summit

The log is as below :

17th Oct 09
0630 ~ Depart
0820 ~ Climb
0900 ~ Empty ground (Tanah Lapang)
0930 ~ Forest Gate (Pintu Rimba)
1010 ~ Last Water Point
1045 ~ Rock Garden and rested for a while
1115 ~ Head to summit
1200 ~ Summit of Mt Bunga Buah
1400 ~ Start descending
1700 ~
Arrive at base

Belum

The trip was successful, but the painful part was that i could not make it for this trip. 2 days prior to the trip, i was down with chicken pox. In total, 6  of us didn't make the trip. But the news is, it was an enjoyable trip and everyone really went into swim, eat and sleep mode. Well, Belum II edition should be coming soon..

Here are the pictures from the recent trip.
